We are seeking a creative, strategic, and community-focused Communications & Media Relations Specialist to support the Facilities Services Division (FSD). In this pivotal role, you'll help tell the story of how our construction and modernization projects are transforming campuses and improving student success. You'll manage public outreach, media relations, digital content, and social media campaigns that highlight the impact of our facilities programs across the district.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong and timely presence across all social media platforms to promote Facilities Services projects, events, and initiatives.
  • Develop and manage communications materials including press releases, media kits, promotional publications, newsletters, brochures, and scripts.
  • Collaborate with media outlets and community organizations to share accurate and engaging stories that align with the division’s goals and enhance public understanding.
  • Update and enhance website content to highlight student achievements, teacher milestones, community events, and construction updates.
  • Monitor media coverage, videos, and online conversations; respond with timely content that reflects the District’s mission and ensures consistency across platforms.
  • Research and gather data to craft compelling content for internal and external distribution, including community newspapers, radio, television, and social media.
  • Support executive leadership with presentation materials, speeches, and visual aids for board meetings and stakeholder events.
  • Develop educational and promotional exhibits or displays for public engagement and outreach.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness and reach of communication strategies and recommend improvements.
  • Work closely with internal departments to support initiatives and ensure consistent messaging across all FSD communications.
  • Participate in setting strategic communication goals and contribute to budget planning related to public relations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of professional experience in public relations, media relations, journalism, digital communications, or community outreach.
  • Proven track record in managing social media campaigns and creating engaging digital content that resonates with diverse audiences.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, or a related field.
  • Additional years of relevant experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
